Ever wondered what differentiates a good business leader from an elite performer?

There are lots of elite business performer’s habits worth noticing.

When asked what they think the most important one is most people choose discipline. While I think that’s very important I don’t agree.

The one habit elite performers in business share in common is - setting higher standards for themselves and others.

Having higher standards encompasses discipline, but takes it a step further. it is a critical habit because:

→ It provides clarity on what excellence looks like, making it easier to focus efforts. Set standards and evaluate performance objectively.

→ High standards force continuous improvement. Complacency is the enemy of achievement. Set standards and keep raising the bar.

→ You can't set proper goals without clarity on what outstanding performance entails. Set standards and make goal-setting effective.

→ It's easier to stay focused when you know exactly what outstanding execution means. Set standards and drive disciplined action.

→ Without standards, it’s easier to delude oneself into thinking work is satisfactory.

Set standards and it becomes clear when more work is required.

Setting high performance standards is the habit elite business performers have in common. It forces discipline while also providing clarity on what success looks like.

Standards with discipline drive achievement.
