The smartest person in the room is the room.
“The smartest person in the room is the room.”
David Weinberger wrote that in 2012.
His point was simple: groups think better than individuals.
I’ve seen that as a facilitator.
But things changed when AI walked in.
AI can store more.
Process more.
Recall more.
So now the “room” is a mix of humans + machines.
But what do we still bring?
↳ Judgment.
↳ Creativity.
↳ Context.
↳ Ethics.
↳ Human nuance.
AI can support these ... but it can’t replace them.
Here’s the real danger:
It’s not AI. It’s us.
We act like AI is the smartest person in the room.
We stop thinking.
We accept answers without questioning.
We miss subtle errors and biases.
Weinberger was right ... the room is smart.
But the room has changed.
It’s hybrid now.
And it needs us to actually show up.
To think.
To challenge.
To guide.
To stay human.
The question is: What will you bring to this new hybrid world?"
